On the 23rd and 24th of November 2012 the National day of safety in schools took place, promoted by Cittadinanzattiva with 5 thousand initiatives in schools across Italy and the direct involvement of more than 1 million students.
The national day of mobilization for school safety is the highlight of the campaign information and awareness “IMPARARESICURI” which since 2002 is held every year on the 25th of November in hundreds of Italian schools.
The day sees the participation of all registered schools, with the realization of events, institutional meetings, evacuation drills and demonstrations by local institutions and law enforcement agencies across the country.
The main objectives:

To create stable ties among thousands of school with the direct involvement of school managers and those responsible for prevention and protection;

To start opportunities for ongoing dialogue with the authorities responsible for safety;

Increasing the uptake and the entrenchment of a culture of safety declined in all its aspects (health, environment, land).
The strong interest, the enthusiasm, the exponational growth of schools and students involved in a number of years reveal that the attention and sensitivity to the issue of security is more and more alert and active.
The National Day of safety at school is held under the patronage of the President of the Republic, under the patronage of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Department of Civil Protection.
The aim of the X Day, in particular, is to make the students the real protagonists of safety at school. young people can be effective information to their families about the risks of the territory and the correct behavior to adopt in case of emergency, but also to speak to institutions related to shortcoming, such as the Municipal Emergency Plan still absent in many municipalities.
The comment by Adriana Gonzo, coordinator of the School of Active Citizenship: We believe it is essential to work with the students to place alongside the Head of the prevention and protection in schools in the management and prevention of the ordinary risks, reaching the establishment of an “institutional” figure as the Head of Students for a security to be included within the field of law 81/2008. Their students are the most attentive and sensitive to the issue of school safety and the quality of education. Limit their power, it also means limiting the responsibility and commitment to safety of schools.
